“‘Inamona Theatre Company announces the highly-anticipated return of DUKE, honoring the world-renown Hawaiian icon Duke Paoa Kahanamoku, playing at Palikū Theatre on the campus of Windward Community College for two shows only, Thursday, August 18 and Friday August 19, 2016.
Duke Paoa Kahanamoku – Hawai‘i’s greatest athlete, grandfather of modern surfing, 13-term sheriff of Honolulu and Hollywood actor – is unquestionably one of the most important and beloved figures in Hawaiian history. Award-winning native Hawaiian playwright and actor Moses Goods wrote and stars in this one-man show, portraying more than a dozen characters in an unforgettable depiction of an extraordinary life.
This limted run engagement of DUKE marks the launch of Goods’ non-profit organization, ‘Inamona Theatre Company (ITC) and will be the first stop in a scheduled World Tour. Much as Kahanamoku served Hawai‘i as an “Ambassador of Aloha,” ITC strives to share authentic stories of Hawai‘i, both locally and abroad, utilizing Goods’ unique ability to blend Hawaiian oratory, chant and hula with Western and Eastern theatre techniques.
DUKE premiered last Fall in a successful run at Honolulu Theatre for Youth, in collaboration with Bernice Pauahi Bishop Museum, celebrating the 125th anniversary of Kahanamoku’s birth, August 24, 1890. Join us as we wish Duke an early Hauʻoli Lā Hānau!
This production of DUKE is made possible through the generous support of PA‘I Foundation and Honolulu Theatre for Youth. MAHALO NUI!”
