DIVAS (Dancing Impersonating Vixens with Attitude & Sass) is a captivating new female impersonation show featuring a cast of Hawaii-based drag and transgender entertainers. Originally created for Fusion Waikiki’s entertainment roster, DIVAS suddenly found that it was without a home after the LGBTQ nightclub closed its doors for the last time in May of 2017.
With all of the members of the DIVAS cast already in place, and well into the rehearsal process, Producer Dennis Kong, former Entertainment Manager and DJ of Fusion Waikiki, and Co-Producer/Choreographer Jared Ake, owner of Boogie Down Hawaii Dance Studio, decided to continue developing the show with the hope of finding a new venue to call home.
“We all felt it was important to continue to showcase Hawaii based talent while, if possible, keeping the show in Waikiki so it would be easily accessible to locals and visitors alike. With Fusion Waikiki now closed, we want to make sure that the art of drag will have a place in Waikiki’s future, and we hope that by presenting it in a fresh, attention-grabbing way, we’ll be able to do just that at Hula’s.
