DesiQ Diaspora (DQD) 2020 is a conference that aims to gather LGBTQ+ and TGNC South Asian, Indo-Caribbean and folks that identify within the greater Desi Diaspora. The goal is to bring these groups together from around the world to discuss the political and cultural issues that our communities face.

Often LGBTQ+ and TGNC people within our communities exist as marginalized minorities and it is crucial for us to create authentic, diverse, and progressive spaces in which we can proactively combat stereotypes and successfully advocate for change. DQD will be a space in which we can strategize around current and future political battles and build vital bonds of community and friendship.

The conference will be held at the DoubleTree in Austin, Texas from May 15-17, 2020. We chose Austin, Texas because it has one of the fastest-growing Asian communities and we wanted to make an intentional effort to move away from the US coastal-centeredness of queer and trans activism.

National Queer Asian Pacific Islander Alliance (NQAPIA) is the fiscal sponsor of DesiQ Diaspora and the organization is supporting the conference by allowing us to use their interface for conference registration & donations!
